City Year Corps members work with at-risk students in troubled schools.  Some of our most important work begins when formal lessons end.  When D, a Third grader, finished his schoolwork, this Corps member encouraged him to use his writing skills creatively. In the picture, D is writing a rap song.  

D was kicked out of two schools for fighting and held back once before he met City Year.  Now, working with City Year, he is changing his behavior -- and rapping about keeping his grades up and his friendships strong so he can go on to become a basketball star.
