By serving in a program that provide teens with the supports and opportunities they need to thrive, I have witnessed the emotional and mental growth of over 100 teens through the past year. Their discussions of values, support of one another, and engagement in their community has contributed to not only their future success in life but has also positively impacted the way their community views young people.

One act of service in particular that embodies the change both the teens and their community have experienced is the creation and maintenance of a community garden. Spearheaded by the teens, the garden is the catalyst that has brought community members and teens together, serving side by side to improve and embrace the place they call home. Though my impact on this world is small, through Americorps I played an important role in bringing a community together by planting seeds in both the ground and people's lives.
