This year I was a member of Americorps Hillsborough Reads in Tampa, Florida. The at risk children I helped, read to my son Justin, throughout my pregnancy and after I gave birth to him. It was an enlightnening experience because I was helping children prosper in school, and they were helping my son and me through some difficult times. I had been homeless--and the community resources I researched to help my students, helped me in my own life. I had been offered a job and in addition, a second year with Americorps. Americorps had truly worked for me.
