My daughter and I began with AmeriCorps as a family for HIPPY when she was 3. In our last year of this program I decided to serve and became a home visitor. This program had helped us for 2 years in many ways. I learned how to prepare my daughter for school and also how to better interact with my other children. As a home visitor I was given the opportunity to do the same for other families. I took several families under my wings and helped them in any way needed. We recently had the graduation for our students and our parents kept thanking us for helping them throughout these 10 months. However, I am most thankful to them for allowing us into their homes and being open to such a great program. I know we have touched the lives of many, but nothing is greater than the impact they have made on me.
