Hard Work
Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) is not only an environmental conservation corps, but more importantly, an employment agency exclusively for young adults, ages 18 to 24 - an age group often overlooked for even entry-level jobs in this current economy. The Corpsmembers not only earn a weekly stipend for their work, but they will receive an education award, worth over $1,000, upon completion of their term of service. MHYC headquartered in Denver, but a branch has also existed in Colorado Springs for nearly three years now. All crews out of Colorado Springs are land conservation camping crews. In this image, a crew worked and camped for two weeks at Chico Basin Ranch, where they tore down outdated barbed wire fence and replaced it with fresh fencing in over 100-degree weather. The determination of the Corpsmembers is phenomenal. Despite miserably hot temperatures and back-breaking work, they push through with smiles, knowing that they're making lasting differences in their communities.
