AmeriCorps works to involve refugees in the American community.

I serve at a refugee support organization which has a youth program called Camp to Campus, with the end goal being to have these youth make it from refugee camps to college campuses. We took a trip to the history museum one day and the kids had an opportunity to take part in a flag ceremony and sing the national anthem. The kids later told me that they would like to become American citizens while keeping their Burundian culture alive too (and they sang the Burundian national anthem for me as well).
