AmeriCorps brings home New Orleans homeowners
AmeriCorps service member Nicole Baker embraces Michael Thomas, a New Orleans homeowner who has been displaced since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Mr. Thomas, an Army veteran, acted as a rescuer for four days after Hurricane Katrina, using his boat to bring residents to safety.
Nicole helped with the rebuilding efforts of Mr. Thomas' home and supervised volunteer groups. She serves alongside 27 other AmeriCorps service members at Rebuilding Together New Orleans (RTNO), one of the largest rebuilding non-profits in New Orleans. RTNO is a continuing volunteer effort to improve the quality of life of low income homeowners through home repair and revitalization of New Orleans’ neighborhoods.

When i look at this picture, i nearly cried. The look on Mr. Michael Thomas face from my view expresses the joy that a saviour has come. Americorp service gave him hope to live, the joy of a life time, a decent place to call his own, a shelter for his body and soul. I don't think you know what you did for him, he will forever spend the rest of his life a happy man. The sadness of his past fading away to a brighter day. I think this is a better image of Americorps service to show people the love you share with low quality life people (the poor) in the community. Thanks
